Flame has always been an object of prominent symbolic importance. Furthermore, the passage, in ancient times, from city to city for the announcement of the Games and the commencement of the truce is an event that even today moves all of humanity.

In this context of the strong desire to unite peoples and maintain peace in the world, it was decided in 1934 to make the torch relay an integral part of the Olympic Games.

From April 16 to 26, the Olympic Flame travels throughout Greece. Around 600 torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame in the Greek Territory, traveling over 5000 kilometers in 41 Municipalities and ending on April 26, 2024 at the Panathenaic Stadium, where the modern Games were revived.

The route of the Olympic Flame was designed to respond to four main axes:

– To tour the whole of Greece, connecting the four geographical ends of the country, from Crete to Alexandroupoli and from Corfu to Kastellorizo.

– To showcase our most important archaeological sites,

highlighting the treasures of our history and culture

– To showcase the iconic landscapes that make up its beauty of Greece.

– To emphasize the age-old bonds of friendship between Greece and France.

In this journey of accompanying historical routes and hearsay cultures, including Agios Nikolaos of Crete, which is preparing to welcome the flame of hope on Thursday 18 April 2024 at 10:30 in Lake Agios Nikolaos.

Specifically the athletes: Mrs. Paraskevi Plexida, Mr. Dimitris Altsiadis, Mr. Spyros Davrados and Mr. Fanis Sifakis, who were chosen as torchbearers, they will carry on a special route that has planned and will be announced, the flame and with it its message of peace, noble rivalry and the ideals of Olympism.

As it became known, from the organizing committee, the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, invited athletes from neighboring Agios Nikolaos Municipality, of in order to flank the torchbearers, as escorts.

In addition, the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos in the effort to promote Athletics, of Olympic, Para-Olympic Education, of its History and Values Olympism proposes to schools to organize actions and events in which the torchbearers who have been selected will participate as well as distinguished athletes.

For this reason, the representatives of the Agios Nikolaos schools are requested to contact the secretariat of the Sports Organization on the phone 2841089513 in order to agree on the day and time holding the events – speeches, from today, Wednesday, April 10 2024 until Wednesday 17 April 2024.

We also invite all the school directors and teachers of schools to give their students the opportunity to participate in

special ceremony to be held at Lake Agios Nikolaos (18/4/2024)

and to watch the procession and the celebration of its reception

Olympic Flame (10:30 – 11:30 am).
