Karydi
Karydi is located 800m from Dories and is a typical example of a livestock breeding hamlet of the Cretan highlands. Near the village we find earlier livestock holdings-corrals and cheese dairies, of unrendered stonework and separated by dry-stone walls, whose structure is totally in sync with the area’s arid and harsh landscape.
Moving from Karydi towards Skinias we find the Monastery of Kardamoutsa and then the fortress-like Monastery of Areti.
